Well I fell off the blogging world for a while there but i'll try to pick up where i left off. Likely will just be pictures for the most part.
This day was the highlight of my trip to Prince Rupert. The night before i had asked one of the bar tenders where i should explore off road near town. She recommended a trail starting in city limits and going up the near by mountain. I didn't have any expectations and almost didn't even go. The trail started off looking like a back alley way on the outskirts of Rupert, I passed this old run down building and there was a sign saying use at own risk. The trail was flat for the first bit and i nearly turned around.
The trail started to climb at a good rate and I could see a view through the trees hoping it would open up a bit more. Nice sites were starting to show up everywhere. Noticed a walking trail and thought i'd go explore it. The trail was great, different terrain in a short distance different trees, root covered and mossy area's and opened up to a nice gazebo with a stove and a view. Its hard to describe how quickly it dropped off to large cliff below!
There was a huge set of giant stairs on this little hike too, 1' - 2' step ups was neat but a challenge for this morning. So on wards and up wards on the road...there were glimpses of nice views through the trees again then i started to get on top of the mountain and things opened up. I had taken what i was thinking was my greatest video of all time, some minor wheeling and amazing views, was probably around the 9 minute mark when my camera died and the video was unrecoverable. Oh well I'll never forget it. Up above lots of clouds/fog coming in off the ocean, with mountains peaking up through them, civilization way down below me.
I drove the road to the end, there was some survey equipment there and some towers. The road was steep and rocky with switchbacks but i never needed 4x4 and i'd say just about any truck/suv could do this. Was glad i went and plan on going back some day! I think i stopped blogging because i was angry about losing the video from up here. I do have some short ones but perhaps i'll add at a later date, not up to the editing/uploading.
I headed down off the mountain and began to head back inland...which i'll make a part 2 for.
